Inside Flood

Frozen pipes can lead to a number of issues in a modern home, causing significant damage once flowing water turns to ice.
Although keeping pipes flowing and fluid during the winter season isn’t always in the control of a homeowner, there are some preventative measures a homeowner can take to combat frozen pipes.
Allstate Insurance agents, who deal with claims from frozen pipes, recommend keeping homes warmer than 65 degrees to keep walls from freezing. Homeowners should also identify when temperatures will be below freezing and keep hot and cold faucets open enough to let them drip slowly to keep water moving through the pipes.
Agents also advised removing hoses from spigots outside the home, but even with all these measures, it’s still possible for pipes to freeze.
In the event that pipes do freeze, officials recommend contacting a plumber immediately to help thaw the pipes, lest they burst.
