Soot Cleaning: Right versus Wrong

This is why you should always call a professional cleaning company following any fire damage. The first picture is the result of a well intention homeowner attempting to clean soot damage from a sheet rock ceiling. They unintended  embedded the soot causing permanent damage. The second picture is the result of using the proper cleaning tool (i.e. soot sponge) to clean. Once soot is removed and not embedded, it can be sealed and painted.
